Story

Although this medieval copper alloy cauldron, found on Bishopsgate, Norwich,  looks like it might have been used for magic spells and potions, was actually originally used to prepare big batches of stew and broth in a medieval home. It was found around 1860 during building work for new cottages and in 1865, Sir John Boileau, Vice President of the Institute for Archaeology, bought it for the museum's collection. This would be a lovely item for anyone with an interest in local history, the foodie who has everything, a local eaterie wanting to raise its profile or perhaps it could even 'stir' the imagination as a 'magic cauldron' for fairytale, magic or Harry Potter fans of all ages.
