Story
Over the last 40 years, children have become increasingly separated from nature.
Children need nature. Connecting with the natural world is good for their social, physical and mental wellbeing. Nature also needs children. They are its future custodians and the future of our wildlife depends on them.
The CAN fund was established in 2016 by John Snape and his family. It will help children and young people enjoy and value the nature that surrounds them in Norfolk through educational activities and events; supporting the delivery of new projects; and used as match funding to unlock even more support for Norfolk Wildlife Trust's education work.
We are still fundraising for our first CAN project: A Sure Start With Nature.
This year-long pilot scheme introduces children to nature at the start of their lives. In partnership with Sure Start Centres in Great Yarmouth, Thetford and North Norfolk, NWT delivers indoor and outdoor nature-focused activities such as:
- Monthly interactive sessions
- Sensory play, nature-themed walks
- Improving the centres’ grounds for wildlife
- Plus working with new parents and carers, who can similarly benefit from being outdoors and in nature.
We hope to spark an enduring interest in wildlife and a sense of belonging to the environment that will last throughout childhood and beyond.
Please help us to reach more children through our first CAN project by donating today.
