Story
One of the most enjoyable ways that our supporters have raised funds for OSOC is by participating in treks both in the UK and in Nepal. These have been very successful, and the money raised has been invaluable towards financing our vital work in Nepal.
On October 6th-8th, we are undertaking the Yorkshire Three Peaks Trek which is a total of twenty-four miles over three successive days. The individual distances are six miles, seven and a half miles and ten miles, which is not over strenuous.
We are grateful for the support of family, friends and supporters as we seek to raise funds to buy resources and equipment for our colleagues in Nepal.
What your money will buy
£1 will provide food for a child for a day - Basic food and nutrition are essential. We do not give cash to the children as they may choose to buy drugs instead of food.
£5 will pay for a Resources pack for a classroom (coloured chalk, coloured card and marker pens for displays) or for equipment for activities such as football, cricket, frisbees, spinning tops etc.
£10 will pay for a first aid kit As the children are sifting through rubbish for recyclables they often have open cuts and grazes on their feet. A resource worker can provide basic first aid and take a child to hospital if required.
£60 will sponsor a student at the Homework Club for a full year. Many children and their families understand the need for good education and the children are, by and large, willing to work for it. This will give the opportunity for a child to take advantage of tutored help.
£100 will pay for a resource worker spending half a day every week on the streets for a full year. Outreach workers need to engage with the children to befriend them so that they can help and work toward getting them off the streets, either back into their families or into shelters or children’s homes.
