At this time of political turmoil, increased government oppression and heightened risk for Human Rights Defenders (HRDs), PBI Kenya is asking YOU for help.

Kenya held presidential elections on 8th August 2017 but the process was deemed null and void by the Supreme Court so another election was held on the 26th October 2017.
The aftermath of the August elections was marred with violence by security forces. Particularly urban settlements where PBI's grassroots partners work, were hit hard. A recent joint report by Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International states that 33 people lost their lives at the hands of the police in Nairobi alone.
We are deeply concerned that this October election has brought with it similar unrest and violent crackdowns, which could continue for weeks to come.
Brave individuals throughout Kenya are struggling to help their fellow citizens access justice, hold the government accountable for their actions and are relentless in their fight for human rights. Yet, this path is not an easy one, paved with severe threats, intimidation and arbitrary arrest. It requires courage, determination and passion, but it also requires human, logistical and financial resources.
PBI Kenya is a Project of Peace Brigades International. Our mission is to increase the civic space for the work of HRDs who face numerous challenges and risks as a result of their efforts in defence of human rights. We provide accompaniment, capacity development, and advocacy for HRDs at risk.

“At various stages of our work, pursuit for justice for victims seems impossible, PBI rekindles the hopes for us.” (Grassroots HRD)
