Story
The HOPE Foundation is a fund of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow through which our Fellows and Members can change the lives of people and communities for the better through support for initiatives that improve access to healthcare for the most disadvantaged. By acting together, our collective donations make a tangible difference to projects locally, nationally and internationally. The donations from the College Members will leverage gifts from other sources such as companies, College friends and philanthropic trusts. To donate to this fund and learn more about our ambitions visit rcpsg.ac.uk/college/hope or email hope@rcpsg.ac.uk.
In autumn 2017, HOPE Foundation donated £10,000 towards the costs of the Glasgow Winter Night Shelter which operated from November 2017 to March 2018. Those using the shelter often have complex health issues and wounds. The Glasgow City Mission team were able to introduce guests to health workers and nursing staff on site who were able to treat them quickly, bringing down barriers and building relationships with those most in need.
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow partnered with King’s College, London to fund the costs for a surgical volunteer to work in Sierra Leone, liaising with government bodies, healthcare staff and educators. The chosen volunteer will benefit from this experience, developing management, partnership working and surgery skills as well as helping to elevate standards of surgery in Connaught Hospital in Freetown. This project brings together the expertise of our membership to work in partnership.
In recognition of the donors to the HOPE Foundation, the College will cover all support costs to ensure that 100% of your donation goes to projects and casues.
