Story

At our Devonport Park Activity Centre, we deliver a range of fun, challenging activities offering access to a natural environment in the heart of the City for children. These activities include horticulture, outdoor education, adventure activities, creative play and personal development. Collectively we call them our ‘Rooted’ Projects. Saturday club for young people with a disability aged 8 - 16 offering opportunities to get involved in cooking, gardening, crafts and other social activities. Little Seeds Stay and Play drop in toddler/pre-school group for children of all abilities with their parent/carer. In other words social and participation group for young people with mental and emotional health issues.  With your help we plan to make our centre and gardens more accessible and safe for younger children with disabilities, we are developing a new sensory room and soft play resources. We are launching our Lucky 13 Fundraising Campaign.   Families we support are determined to help us raise valuable funds to keep our centre and services running! A group of these wonderful people are running the Plymouth Half Marathon for us!  To support their parents, over the next 13 weeks we will be collectively completing a half marathon with our groups, our children and young people will be doing a mile a week in the lead up to the half marathon to raise funds and show their support. Instead of running 13 miles, Rose and her daughter Vicky are trying to lose a collective 26lbs in weight. They are exercising well and following healthy eating guidelines. Our children are certainly policing the food, keeping it healthy. As you are already aware, we also have Jess who is on target to complete a gruelling 1000 miles for us by the end of the year. Regular updates on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/devonportparkactivitycentre ) about Rose and Vicky’s weight loss, our half marathon runners training, and Jess’s 1000 miles.
