Story
We are aiming to 'accumulate' 1587 miles to commemorate the year our charity was founded. The current Almshouses building was completed in 1842, with an attractive Victorian Chapel at the centre of the building.
Our Chapel was last refurbished in the 1970s and is much in need of some TLC. The Chapel is the biggest communial space in the Almshouses and whilst the primary purpose will be to remain for Christian worship, we would love to be able to use it for other events too.
But we are restricted in what can be done because of the wooden pews: they are not suitable for less mobile residents and are not moveable.
The refurbishment plan includes:
- new convenient and movable seating
- upgrade the heating
- level the flooring
- install a new hearing induction loop
- install a toilet in the vestry
By upgrading the Chapel in this way, we can make much better use of it. We need to raise over £50,000 in all for the upgrade, and plan for this to come from a variety of sources. We are doing our bit with our Sports Accumulator challenge and hope you will sponsor us!
