Story
Starbucks is partnering with international development charity Send a Cow, setting each store a challenge to raise £650, enough money to fund a dairy cow for a vulnerable family living in rural Rwanda.
Aaron Swift, a shift supervisor in Manchester tells us why...
"Back in 2009 Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks, visited Rwanda and gifted a cow after seeing how they had a life-changing impact. Since then, Starbucks has been working with NGOs to provide livestock and training to farmers in our coffee-growing communities.
These cows help improve coffee productivity, provide organic fertiliser, improve household income and nutrition from the meat and milk they produce, and reconcile community relationships. Following my trip to Rwanda last year, I shared what I’d experienced with stores in my region. In 2 weeks we raised £7500 – enough to fund 11 cows.
This year many more Starbucks stores are fundraising for Send a Cow, as together we can make an even bigger difference."
