Story
In just over 2½ years since our launch, The Silver Line Helpline has received our one millionth call from lonely and isolated people.
Two thirds of these calls have occurred during the evenings and at weekends when we’re the only place many older people can turn. However, due to increased numbers of callers, we desperately need funds to keep our vital out of hours service going.
Muriel, age 87, called the helpline after her husband died suddenly. She said:
“They are there to talk or even have a little weep with. I canring at any time day or night. It is wonderful as you can’t always gauge whenyou will be feeling low, so to know someone is there is just priceless.”
It costs us £1.65m to run our out of hours services. In order for our night-time helpline to survive we desperately need more public donations.
For every £5 you donate we will be able to answer a call at night from an older person who may be lonely, frightened or confused - please help us answer another 5000 calls.
Thank you.
