Story

Zomba Mental Hospital in Malawi has very limited hand washing facilities and few ways to isolate patients - when the Corona virus hits the hospital they will really struggle to protect the patients and staff - there will be deaths. There are no intensive care facilities that can assist. So the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people will be worse affected by this pandemic. Please help us to assist the hospital in some way - we cannot totally protect these people but have direct routes to supply funds to them - nothing will be lost in administration costs. We have been involved with the mental health systems in Malawi for over 14 years - with many of us spending time in the country. It is extremely distressing to think about what will happen to them if we don't act very soon to help in some way.

About the charity

SMMHEP aims to provide sustainable support for psychiatric teaching for health care professionals in Malawi. The project has enjoyed close links within Malawi since 2006 and became a registered Scottish Charity in 2008. Currently the principal activites are delivery of undergraduate medical student teaching, and ECT equipment and training.
