Story
All the funds raised from Linda’s Everest trip will go to support Spectrum People, our charity that provides volunteering and meaningful activities for vulnerable people across the Wakefield District. Over 940 people have engaged with the charity in over 10,000 interactions in the last two years. But we need your help to keep this level of engagement going.
Many of the vulnerable people we support have become isolated from communities due to a whole host of complex issues – anything from mental and physical health issues to homelessness, addiction issues and offending behaviour.
Spectrum People aims to bring these people back into society by building up their self-esteem, providing some basic skills training and offering plenty of opportunities for social interaction.
We have a number of key projects:
- ReCycle, a partnership scheme which allows service users to gain qualifications and technical skills through repairing donated bikes. Service users who progress in the ReCycle workshops have the chance to own their rebuilt bike and can become Ambassadors for the course
- Café and Chat, a community hub which offers a safe, neutral space for service users to relax with a free drink and snack, with support and signposting to other help
- Appletree Allotment & Community Garden, which offers an inclusive, family-friendly environment for people of all ages to grow fruit and vegetables and take part in family activities in the therapy setting of the great outdoors
Every small donation can help; you can help the charity to provide more resources at the Spectrum People Café, help support the allotments project (which is valuable in helping vulnerable people to have the skills to grow their own food). Your donations can also help support volunteers of Spectrum People’s projects, and can go towards covering their travel expenses, as they give up their free time to help the charity.
