Every two hours, someone in the UK will become paralysed. Globally, it is estimated that 15.4 million people are living with paralysis. At Spinal Research our vision is to create a world where paralysis can be cured, no matter when the injury occurred or where in the world.

Story

This campaign brings together all the #TeamSpinal runners on our 2017 Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon team.

The money they raise will help fund research across theworld into treatments for spinal cord injury and the distressing anddevastating effects it has on people’s lives.

Spinal Research is the UK’s leading charity funding medicalresearch around the world to develop effective treatments for paralysis causedby spinal cord injury.

Every year1,000 people in the UK and Ireland are paralysed following an injury to theirspinal cord. Spinal Research raises money to fund research into clinicaltreatments as well as vital scientific research such as clinical tools tobetter understand the injury caused, andfor the devastating effects on daily living such as breathing, hand movement, and bladder and bowel control.

Thanks to theinnovative research we have funded, many experimental treatments, includingthose to restore movement and feeling, have had positive effects on spinal cordinjury in the research laboratory. We are determined to see these treatmentstransferred to the clinic, transforming the lives of paralysed people.

This medicalresearch will not only benefit people with a spinal cord injury but alsoadvance treatments for multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, stroke, dementia andmotor neurone disease.

We receiveno government funding and rely entirely on the support of the public to raise fundsfor our research. Because of the efforts of our supporters, we have funded over140 research projects which have achieved a number of ground breaking changes in the field.
