The campaign has now expired but it's not too late to support this charity.
Visit the charity's profileIn the beginning... The idea came from a group of local teenagers involved in a project called SPUD Youth. These young people developed designs for a new cycle cafe for Winchester, partly inspired by the creation of a new cycle route through Winchester. After almost 3 years of research, model-making, planning meetings, presentations and consultation, they have now secured planning permission for the cafe.
What is Handlebar Cafe? The design of the cafe echoes the shape of two train carriages. It will be crafted largely from timber and be a model of sustainable design. As well as a cafe it will offer bike maintenance, events and organised rides offering stunning views over the surrounding countryside. Bespoke Biking will operate the Handlebar Café as a cycle-friendly, socially-sourced café. It will offer facilities to cyclists as well as walkers. Bespoke Biking's mission is to encourage everyone to get out and about having fun on their bikes. Young or old, women, children and families.
If we were fortunate enough to exceed our fundraising target the donated funds will go towards equipment for the HandleBar Cafe as well as the provision of SPUD Youth workshops, educating young people while reducing social isolation.
