Story
I have worked at St Anne’s for over 5 years, teaching my class of wheelchair bound pupils, all of whom have profound and multiple learning difficulties. 4 years ago, I implemented a ‘Sensory Curriculum’ designed to further stimulate pupils by exposing them to as wide a range of sensory experiences as possible. A large part of this is created within the classroom with the occasional but rare trip to the seaside, local farm, ‘Winter Wonderland’ and even ice skating! These experiences are fundamental in developing social and cognitive progression across all aspects of their sensory world.
Currently the school has little wheelchair adapted transport, so these experiences are extremely difficult to arrange.
My goal is to raise money through ‘WHEELS 4 WHEELS’ to purchase a Wheelchair Accessible Bus and to pay for the opportunities this will enable my pupils to experience, some that you and I take so readily for granted including access to therapies such as Rebound and Horse Riding.
