The campaign has now expired but it's not too late to support this charity.
Visit the charity's profileThe Charter School is a coeducational, non-selective school in the London Borough of Southwark. Like all schools, it is facing severe budget cuts. The school spends almost £200,000 a year on energy, much of it on lighting. The school cannot afford to start the project due to budget cuts by DfE and therefore the Friends of the Charter School are fundraising to help kickstart this project. The school could significantly cut its electricity bill by installing efficient LED lighting. LEDs typically use up to 70% less energy than the existing lights. They are also better for the environment – and are proven to enhance learning as well.
£5,000 invested in LEDs will save the school up to £2,000 a year, or £30,000 over the lifetime of the bulbs. So every £10 donated could save the school £60! And every £37 donated will offset 1 whole tonne of CO2 (energy used by the average UK household emits around 4 tonnes of CO2 a year).
