Alex, who is 8 years old was born with Microtia (literally 'little ear') Microtia is a congenital deformity where the pinna (external ear) is underdeveloped which is further complicated in Alex's case with aural atresia, which is the absence of an external ear canal and renders him completely deaf on that side. This disability makes many aspects of his life very challenging, from not being able to hear someone call him from across a crowded room and finding social gatherings incredibly daunting to not being able to hear the direction of traffic when crossing the road. We're trying to reach our target of around £35,000 which will pay for Alex to travel to the USA to see a specialist to reconstruct Alex's ear for him and restore his hearing.
