The Galapagos islands are a hotspot for wildlife enthusiasts and tourists meaning essential safeguarding projects are vital in protecting this one-of-a-kind environment.
The Galapagos sea lion is threatened with the El Niño event which causes a collapse in the local marine life - their only source of food. Human activity and waste pollution, such as marine plastics, are also posing a threat. Often mistaken for food it is easily ingested or becomes tangled around their necks or limbs.
Your donation will go to the Galapagos Future Fund, which supports projects that are essential to safeguarding the wildlife living in the Archipelago. It will go directly towards buying high tech equipment for monitoring the sea lion colonies and also to fund a study investigating the impact of waste plastics on their numbers.
