Story
The Turbo Trust has received a number of grant applications recently on behalf of young children who are currently completely immobile due to incurable conditions affecting their muscle strength and control. All are full of potential but totally frustrated by their inability to join in with normal play activities appropriate to their age.
Research done over many years suggests that deprivation of independent movement in the crucial early years of development can also lead to longterm passivity and lack of motivation later in life, known as "learned helplessness".
The Turbo Trust is committed to preventing this by supplying grants to these families to buy SnapDragon powerchairs as early as possible, in conjunction with the Dragonmobility Project, founded by the Everard family, who have pioneered children's powered mobility since 1981.
We want to give grants of between £5,000 and £20,000 each to these families, which, alongside their own fundraising, will achieve this goal.
