Story
Sadly one in eight people will be diagnosed with breast cancer, with half becoming resistant to the therapies they are given to combat the disease, such as chemotherapy.
Our research team has already discovered that stress is a contributing factor to the resistance of cancer treatments. The team is now completing its first biological study which aims to develop a range of interventions on the treatment of stress and breast cancer.
Our researchers will explore new drug delivery methods along with investigating the role of stress on the immune system in breast cancer. This is significant because it helps us understand pharmacological interventions to maximise their efficiency in the treatment of breast cancer. Determining the effects of stress on the efficacy of chemotherapy will help identify the correct time for medicines to be administered for greatest therapeutic effect.
The potential impact of this research means more people may win their fight against breast cancer, permanently.
