Story
Built in 1342, Winterbourne Barn was constructed by the English gentry; it now stands as the sole survivor, described by Historic England as 'a building of national significance'. Its magnificent raised cruck roof - containing 7 bays of original oak beams - stretches high above your head towards the skies celebrating over 600 years of history. But whilst Winterbourne Barn stands proud, the other buildings on the site urgently need restoring. When we've restored all of the buildings, Winterbourne Barn will be many things to many people: a beautiful and peaceful place to discover the medieval history and heritage of Winterbourne and its surrounding landscape; a romantic rural wedding venue; an inspirational setting for children and adults to learn and be creative with spaces for 'making, doing and learning' where people can try their hand at rural crafts, such as willow weaving; and; an important place where people can be close to nature in a setting shaped by its activities and its landscape. Add to this our programme of family-friendly community events, music, theatre and guided tours, and there will be something for everyone. Your gift, however large or small, can help save this wonderful Medieval building for future generations
