Story
After Manchester, London, Paris, Nice, Berlin, Stockholm, and now Barcelona. Who isn’t sickened by this insane slaughter? But can we ever change a culture where murder, mayhem and unspeakable atrocity continues if we’re relegated to the status of sympathisers and mourners? With Europe’s great tourist destinations being singled out and vehicles becoming the weapon of choice it might seem there is nothing we can do to turn the tide against Islamist carnage. Yet surely we can and must try to challenge the hole at the heart of European politics which allows these things to happen. Vapid statements of unity and love, the silencing and censorship of all critics of Islamism, identity politics which big up cultural difference and reject our universal human interest and common humanity, it’s becoming clear, give succour to would-be jihadists. They think they are put-upon victims, are different, special and we should be mown down. It’s time for a culture shift and a more honest politics. The government's Prevent strategy is an utter failure, worse still it’s stifled the debate we need to challenge the anti-human ideas of Islamist terrorists.
To address this the charity WORLDwrite is hosting a filmed solidarity picnic on Sunday 27th August for those who seriously want to confront the horror with more than candles and flowers, who are angry and unafraid to speak up. But we urgently need your help to pull this off, from decent sound gear to more chairs, to film and edit costs, our truth telling campaign needs you to dig deep. We'd be delighted to see you on the day too.
