Yeldall Manor (charity: Yeldall Christian Centres) is a Christian addiction recovery centre near Reading. For over 40 years, we have been helping men to overcome serious drug or alcohol addictions and return to society to live new lives, drug-, alcohol- and crime-free. Sustainable Christian recovery

Story

"Alcohol took everything away from me: relationship, family, jobs, self-esteem, pride, integrity... I'm begging for help. Genuinely!"

"To those who are responsible for Yeldall's Bursary scheme, I am writing with a desperate appeal that you will consider me an appropriate candidate..."

These are two recent letters to the Yeldall Manor Good Samaritan Bursary Fund from men who were not able to obtain funding from their local drug and alcohol teams nor from family/church. Without the Bursary Fund, they wouldn't have been able to come to Yeldall and undergo the rehabilitation they so desperately needed and wanted.

The Yeldall programme is proving really successful, with more men than ever moving on to the Lodge programme and move-on accommodation beyond that. There is a vibrant recovery community both here at Yeldall Manor and beyond, but there is a financial cost to that.

The Bursary Fund enables supporters to be 'Good Samaritans'; facilitating us to care for those in need. Since its launch in 2010, demand for Bursary places has increased dramatically, with nearly half of residents now needing Bursary funding. In 2017-18, we have already spent £33,000 more than we budgeted to accommodate Bursary residents.

When men approach us needing rehab but unable to pay, we have chosen to accept them onto the programme, even when the Bursary pot is empty. As we have stepped out in faith in this way, God has always provided, and we trust Him to do so again. We are seeking an additional £100,000 per year for the next two years to replenish the Bursary Fund and help even more men, while at the same time we work on alternative funding streams to supplement the harder-to-access funding from drug and alcohol teams.

To give on a regular basis, please contact us for bank details (suehedger@yeldall.org.uk) or make a single donation here. Whatever you can give will be greatly appreciated and will have a life-changing effect for the many men who are asking us for help. Thank you.
