Story
Cara was born with club feet, one of the most common birth defects in the world, affecting 1 in 800 children.
At the time, it felt very unlucky. She spent her first few months with her legs and feet in plaster and had to wear special boots with a bar between them every night until she turned five. When we first heard the words "until she is five", it felt like forever. But this week, a day before her fifth birthday, she finished her treatment and said goodbye to her boots and bar for good. Thanks to a relatively simple treatment on the NHS, she is able to walk, run, climb and twirl (which is quite important when you're a five-year-old girl).
Unfortunately, 85% of children born with clubfoot in low- or middle-income countries have limited access to treatment and face an increased risk of lifelong pain, stigma, and exclusion. There is still a lot of work to be done to make sure all children round the world get the same treatment.
We'd love to give something back as a thank you for the treatment Cara has received. We know there are lots of other things to pay for, especially at the moment, but would be very grateful if you could consider giving £5 as a little "high five" for Cara to celebrate completing five years of treatment. Go Cara!
