As most of you probably know i had a bit of a serious accident 2 years ago while out hillwalking with Stuart. I managed to take a header off a cliff and fall 225 ft, breaking my ankle, hips, pelivs, sacrum and all the lumbar bones in my back...sounds scary when you list it like that :o).
Anyway thanks to quick thinking (and running) on Stu's part he managed to get in contact with the police who then contacted the mountain rescue services. I had to be airlifted off the mountain by the mountain rescue team. The Scottish mountain rescuers are all volunteers and they do wonderful work. I would probably not have been here today if it was not for these amazing people. So i would like to try and give something back. Now that i am 'recovered' from all my injuries i would like to start trying to get back into some of the events i used to do back in the pre accident days and this will be my first run/walk event.
I think the reasons why i chose this charity are fairly obvious but in brief the mountain rescue teams who respond to such emergencies are volunteers who are on call 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. They are highly trained and skilled, but also kind and non-judgemental to those they rescue....though i think they deserve medal for not telling some people off!!!! The Mountain Rescue Committee of Scotland provides support to the mountain rescue teams in the form of courses, grants and equipment. I hope you'll consider supporting them and their work both in preparing the teams for emergency situations and in the promotion of safe use of the scottish highlands.
Any donations that you can give to help me in this is much appreciated.
