Carolyn and Fern have been friends for over 40 years, they first met when they both came to Salisbury Infirmary to do their SRN nurse training in 1971 as young 18 year old's.

Carolyn has continued to have a career in nursing, returning to nursing after having her family, in the mid eighties, and since the early nineties has worked in Cancer care where she is now the Senior Sister of the Pembroke Unit

Fern left nursing and went into Pre School, where she helped to set up Shrewton Pre School after having her family. Fern worked at Shrewton pre school for over 20 years,  where she became the co-ordinator for helping children with special needs.

Both carolyn and Fern wanted to compete in a challenge before they got much older, and when they discovered that JAS Hair and Spire FM were organisinf the Grand Canyon Trek they both felt that this was the challenge they had been waiting for.

It also means that they can fundraise for Cancer care which is very close to both of their hearts.Carolyn being the senior sister of a cancer unit and Fern who has been closely connected personnally to people going through the Cancer journey.
