Phab inspires and supports disabled and non-disabled children, young people and adults, to make more of life together, through our network of 130 clubs & residential adventures - breaking down community barriers, reducing social isolation, and creating opportunities for all involved.

Story

This April I'll be running my fifth marathon (the penultimate step in a long journey to run the Six World Majors)! I'm thrilled and honored to be running the London Marathon in support of a wonderful UK-based organization called Phab.

For over 60 years, Phab has focused on providing inclusive and accessible opportunities for disabled and non-disabled children and young people to experience recreational activities together, side-by-side. In the 1960s, this took the form of "Fun and Happiness" weekends hosted by Phab -- these have since evolved into annual Inclusive Living Experience Residential Projects at fully accessible outdoor activity centers. There is also a network of 130+ Phab Clubs, comprising over 8,000 members, working to enable these experiences at schools and universities across the UK. Together, the clubs participate in activities such as bowling leagues, discos, local firehouse visits, and boccia* tournaments (*boccia is a wheelchair-accessible and competitive Paralympic sport similar to bocce and pétanque).

The goals of Phab -- to break down community barriers, reduce social isolation, and increase self-esteem, confidence and independence -- are ones I share, and I hope you'll join me in supporting their work. Thank you for considering!

Here are examples of what your contributions could cover:

  • £25 (~$30): Refreshments for club members and volunteers to enjoy at their local Phab Club
  • £50 (~$60): Arts and crafts supplies for club members to enjoy at their local Phab Club
  • £75 (~$90): A set of Boccia balls to enable Phab club members to get involved in team sports
  • £100 (~$120): Training and travel for each volunteer involved in the Residential Projects Programme for disabled children and young people
  • £250 (~$300): A wheelchair accessible minibus and driver for a day outing
  • £610(~$730): The cost of someone's lodging while participating in the exciting and challenging Residential Projects Programme for children and young people (which is otherwise held at fully accessible outdoor activity center)
