Bupa Great South Run 2010 · 24 October 2010 ·
Anouk, our gorgeous three year old daughter has been the inspiration for this run. She was diagnosed with cancer in September of last year and since then has received extraordinary care from extraordinary people. Treatment of her brain tumour has involved surgery, receiving very intensive chemotherapy, a bone marrow transplant and daily radiotherapy for 6 weeks.
We are incredibly lucky to have Anouk and to be making this journey with her. She is a great girl who is doing very well against the odds. The tumour Anouk had is rare and has only recently been identified. There is a lot more to learn about it. Unfortunately, outcomes for children with brain tumours are often poor, and research into this area of medicine does not attract enough financial support. More resources are needed to discover how to beat this disease and to improve the lives of children who are diagnosed now and in the future. Money raised through this appeal will go to the "Royal Marsden Paediatric Brain Tumour Research Fund" and will be used to fund projects which will help identify better treatments and improve the lives of children living with and surviving brain tumours, it is a great cause.
Our little battle is against our over 40 year old lardy bodies. None of us have run more than 1500 metres before we started training (and that was at school), 10 miles is not a walk in the park for us - however there is no downside to this crazy plan...
If you want to know more about Anouk's story we have kept a blog and you can find it at www.anouksprogress.blogspot.com
