Beating CF takes a lot of time in and out of the gym to save time in and out of the hospital. To beat CF you need both cardio endurance, obtaining lean bodyweight to help fight off any chest infections aswell as strength both mentally and physically. With this in mind Gary has set himself a big challenge of attempting all of the events all within a duration of 5 months.

THIS IS WHY!

At 3 weeks old Gary was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF).
CF is a lung disease which effects both the respiratory and digestive systems in thousands of people in the UK. Researchers are getting closer and closer to finding the next best thing to a cure so awareness is absolutely vital especially at the moment. Soon enough CF should stand for 'Cure Found' and not Cystic Fibrosis!

At a young age Gary was told that he would only live until the age of 30 years of age. Even though the average life expectancy with someone with CF is considerably higher now in 2016, 30 years of age has always been a slight marker point in the back of Gary’s mind.

Now in his 30TH year Gary (who is also expecting his first child) has set out to make a big mark and for all the rights reasons. Gary’s intension is to not only participate in one major sports event, but to do numerous events all year long. He has set himself big challenges in different fitness sectors such as Triathlons, Military Obstacle Courses, a 10k run and survival of the fittest mud races.

To briefly explain someone with CF like Gary only has a lung capacity volume of around 40% to 60% whereas a normal healthy person has around 80% to 100%. It also effects the digestive system so they only absorb half of their food, this makes training and nutrition that little bit harder.

The fact that Gary has CF has always been kept a secret from the majority of people that know him. Scientists and Researchers are now in a vital stage where they are working hard on what’s called, Superdrugs! Drugs which can attack the underlying cause of CF, the next best thing to a cure! With this in mind Gary knows that it is vital to help create awareness for CF and to help to raise vital funds which will help towards bringing the Superdrugs to reality!

Gary Says “Please do me a favour, donate me the cost of a pint (£3) to show your support. At least £3 is all that is needed to help make a serious difference to the future of CF. All your help and support is very much needed. Let’s make CF stand for Cure Found, and not Cystic Fibrosis” Thank you!

Gary would like to thank all his family and friends for all their support, aswell as the Manchester Cystic Fibrosis Unit, Cystic Fibrosis Trust UK,  TriFit Cycles and Bramini Racing gym.
