Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

3 Commando Brigade returned from Afghanistan in April 2009 after a six month tour of duty in Helmand Province. During our tour there were many notable successes but progress came at a significant cost. 35 of our comrades have been killed in action, 135 have been wounded in action (of which 48 are 'life-changing injuries') and 340 have suffered disease and non-battle related injuries.  There will inevitably be further casualties before we come home.

Al Litster, Si Dean, Adam Whitmarsh, and Nick Copsey will be competing in the CHARA CHALLENGE to raise money for the dependants of our comrades who will not be coming home and for the care of those who are suffering from the injuries they have sustained serving their country.

It is a 30 mile race across Dartmoor on the 16th July 2009. We are using this race as a vehicle to involve people who want to be a part of the Chara Challenge and who want to test themselves on one of the Commando tests. It is also a challenge to the members of 3 Commando Brigade to raise money for the long term care of their injured comrades and their dependants.  We have been through this experience together and we must help each other when we return home. The race will be conducted in boots and carrying 32 pounds in a daysack (plus safety stores).  The cut-off time for completing the race is 10 hours.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Royal Marines Benevolent Fund gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Thank you for your support.
