About us
Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is a UK-based charity dedicated to helping people escape the grip of poverty and debt. Founded in 1996, it works through a network of local churches to provide free, practical support to individuals and families struggling with financial hardship. CAP is best known for its debt help service, where trained advisors visit clients in their homes, assess their financial situation, and create manageable repayment plans. They also negotiate directly with creditors, helping to reduce pressure and give people a clear path forward.
Beyond debt support, CAP offers job clubs, life skills groups, and money coaching to address the root causes of poverty. These services aim to build confidence, improve budgeting skills, and help people move toward sustainable employment. A key part of CAP’s approach is its holistic care—combining professional financial guidance with emotional and community support through local churches.
Our Christian faith motivates us. We offer to pray with all our clients and, where there is interest, we share about Jesus and the full life He offers.
The charity’s work has had a significant impact across the UK, helping thousands of people become debt-free and regain control of their lives. By tackling both the practical and personal challenges of poverty, CAP seeks to bring long-term transformation, not just short-term relief.
