Wheelchair Rugby was first created as a sport for people with Spinal Cord Injuries who were not physically functional enough to play other disability sports such as Wheelchair Basketball. All players at the NE Bulls WRC have impairments or disabilities effecting both their arms and legs meaning they struggle with a lot of day to day tasks. Wheelchair Rugby is a sport that they are able to compete in equally and is adapted to their limited function. The Bulls are one of two clubs in the north-east and first established in 2002. The club can be described as a lifeline for some of its members as without the provision of this sport, some members would be completely inactive. The NE Bulls WRC would like to make the sport as accessible as possible for those with a disability and as such have decided to raise funds on an annual basis in order to purchase wheelchairs which can be used by new players when they join the club. As a Charity, any funds raised by the club are used to further the clubs objective - the relief of disabled people by the promotion of disability sport and in particular Wheelchair Rugby in County Durham, Teesside & North Yorkshire. The charity’s main purpose is to play wheelchair rugby in accordance with the rules of the sport (including rules for any discipline of the sport) as set out by the World Wheelchair Rugby (WWR) and/or by Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby Ltd (GBWR).
