About us
Brookgreen Gardens is a one-of-a-kind destination where American figurative sculpture, breathtaking gardens, and the rich ecology and history of the South Carolina Lowcountry come together in one extraordinary place.
Founded in 1931 by Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington, Brookgreen has grown into one of America's premier cultural institutions — holding the rare distinction of dual accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, while also designated a National Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, our mission is to collect, conserve, and exhibit figurative sculpture by American artists; to cultivate and display our magnificent gardens; and to preserve the plants, animals, and cultural heritage of the Lowcountry for future generations. Through tours, programs, and exhibitions offered year-round, we educate and inspire visitors of all ages.
Every gift to Brookgreen Gardens helps sustain this living landmark — protecting irreplaceable works of art, conserving native ecosystems, and ensuring that residents and visitors for generations to come can experience a place that is, simply put, Ever Changing. Simply Amazing.
See you in the gardens.
