Founded in 1931 by Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington, Brookgreen has grown into one of America's premier cultural institutions — holding the rare distinction of dual accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, while also designated a National Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, our mission is to collect, conserve, and exhibit figurative sculpture by American artists; to cultivate and display our magnificent gardens; and to preserve the plants, animals, and cultural heritage of the Lowcountry for future generations.
