Story
Anthem for a Child celebrates 10 fantastic years of Music Education with the OAE. Building on partnerships we have developed over time, I am about to launch a tour that takes us across the UK delivering concerts and workshops to over 5000 children. And by ‘us’ I mean a 20 piece orchestra.
I must be mad.
This mammoth project, which celebrates a decade’s worth of work, needs an equally fantastic fundraising campaign and I wanted to get as many people involved as possible. So, as an organisation we have decided to pledge 5000 miles – a mile of activity for every child on the project.
I feel passionately that music can make a difference and I am inspired by all my colleagues who have pledged to do all sorts of activities in the name of Anthem, from dancing to swimming, we really have seen it all!
But what am I doing I hear you cry! Well, for my sins, I have decided to undertake the following, 100 miles thus:
· 26 miles swimming – no less than 1664 lengths! 466 of which I completed in January
· 26 miles walking – all to be completed in one weekend (which happens to be a snowy weekend in February)
· 26 miles Cycling during the Easter Holiday
· 22 miles walking… and more if there is the time!
I know we are bombarded by pleas for money but any help you can give me will make me go even further and will help the OAE to deliver this amazing project which will reach thousands young people and hopefully inspire the next generation of musicians.... Perhaps we will have some future OAE players amongst them!
All the money I raise from people sponsoring me to get active will go towards Anthem and the costs of bringing this fantastic project to so many people.
