Brentwood Half Marathon · 24 March 2013

Partnering with parents, we support families whose children have additional needs or disabilities by providing compassion, guidance and hope. SNAP helps families across Essex with children 0 – 25 years, with any additional need and disability.

Story

It all started out a few months ago when I offered to undertake the relatively simple task of running the Brentwood Half Marathon for charity, but that task has now morphed into something much bigger. Thanks to my local running club, Liss Runners, I've since obtained a place for this year's London Marathon - not a race that I'd planned to enter again in a hurry, but to have the opportunity to take part is too special to turn down. I'll be running both events for the same charity and, just in case the challenge of completing both races isn't enough to encourage your sponsorship, I thought I'd throw a couple of other events into the mix!

Here's the game plan:

Sunday 3rd March - Bath Half Marathon

Sunday 24th March - Brentwood Half Marathon

Sunday 7th April - Croydon Half Marathon

Sunday 21st April - London Marathon

Preparations to date have gone well and I'm now comfortably (I use that term loosely) completing 15 mile runs in training. I'll be gradually increasing the weekend runs as I get closer to the main event on 21st April, the idea being that I'll slot in at least one 20+ mile run beforehand. I guess theoretically that means that the three half marathons are 'rest days', at least relatively speaking, but then I think I'll be entitled to a break. :-)

So, about my chosen charity...

The charity that I'm raising funds for is SNAP (Special Needs and Parents), a registered charity based in Brentwood, Essex that has a personal connection for me as some reading this will know. SNAP provides support for families and carers of children with special needs and/or disabilities. SNAP's provisions include parent and pre-school children groups, telephone support and information, a specialist library, seminars and training courses, children's and young people's activities, sibling support, and social events for families. For more information, including SNAP's latest newsletter, you can visit their website via the link at the foot of this message.

SNAP is entirely dependent upon donations for its continuing existence, and every pledge will go a long way to enabling SNAP to continue providing invaluable support.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. SNAP will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK tax payer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

On behalf of SNAP and myself, thank you for visiting my fundraising page and for your support. :-)

All the best

Chris
