Back in 2004, at the age of 22, I sustained a spinal cord injury, due to an accident at work. Just after the accident I hit an all time low and seeing any sort of a positive future seemed impossible. I spent the next 6 months at Salisbury spinal unit and faced many uphill battles and with the help from all the amazing people involved in my rehabilitation, I left to begin my new life in a wheelchair. Twelve years later I am married with 3 amazing children and although I still face many struggles I feel very privileged to have made it to a place where i feel content and can now enjoy life. This is the reason why I have set myself this Challenge, it is not only for personal achievement but a way to try and give a little back to everyone that has helped me and a chance for them to help others with spinal cord injuries. Without them I definitely would not be where I am now, both physically and emotionally, looking forward to my positive future.
I'm taking on the Aspire Channel Swim 2016,
swimming the distance of the Channel over 12 weeks
Every eight hours someone is paralysed by a Spinal Cord Injury and Aspire provides the essential equipment, advice, housing and grants that spinal cord injured people need to live their lives independently. This is a big challenge, but the more I raise, the more of a difference I'll make, so please be generous!
