Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

With my love for Hiking and love for mans best friend, it was only right for me to pick this challenge, if you have not heard of it before this is the Coast to Coast walk, a 195 Mile / 305Km trek across 3 of Englands national parks (Yorkshire moors, Yorkshire Dales, Lake district)

As i'm also an ex member of the armed forces, charity's like Help for heroes are always close to my heart, but in recent months a new charity has popped up that needs not only publicising but money to help our soldiers that return from war that have been seriously injured. I have been there and witnessed this first hand whilst also serving during the Iraq invasion in March 2003 for 6 months.

As Help for heroes is well established now and also had celebrity, film star, sports star backing my chosen charity below goes towards a very similar fund but has a twist :-)

As i mentioned earlier i love dogs and i'm a dog owner, i have a 4 year old chocolate lab called Zebo, she is one in a million and Myself, Mum, sister ETC always say we wouldnt know were we would be with out her!!

I saw 'Hounds for heroes' on the news a few days ago (06/12/2011) and instantly sat up and thought thats the one for me.

When is the challenge? -

20th April - 1st May 2012, We will be camping in the mountains, dales, moors on route.

Who will be joining me? - a good friend of mine Alex atkinson,

who i have spent many a mile walking around the lake district with, and also a new friend Rob Mepham (who both are also dog owners).

Our route shall go from east to west...reason for that? -

because myself, Alex, Rob all feel that the lakes is a stunning finale to end an epic adventure.

How will you guys know how we got on? -

I will be taking video and pictures along the way and will write on my blog about the adventure once completed, i will also be posting live pictures AND live posts whilst on route Via Twitter my username is @chris25119600, so make sure you follow.

The details below describe what 'hounds for heroes' is all about, please dig as deep as you can, to get this amazing charity off the ground, so in turn you will know when the money is raised to train the first 5 pups to go on to be guide dogs for our injured service men and woman that protect our country, that you have done your bit for chairty.

there is also a short video of the Founder Allan and his Lab "EJ", and also some pictures from their website which can be found on this page.

Oh.....And wish me luck :-)

The purpose of "Hounds for Heroes" is to provide specially trained assistance dogs to injured and disabled men and women of both the UK armed forces and civilian emergency services.

Through this provision our aims are to provide help and practical support leading to an enhanced quality of life for our clients.

Initially Hounds for Heroes intends to raise £100,000 to buy 5 Labradors, the Puppies on Parade Appeal, these dogs will be carefully selected for all the qualities needed to produce excellent assistance dogs. The Charity will carefully select puppy parents to start with this very essential part of their training. After around 15 months the specialist training will start, with a combination of puppy parents and the new owner. All the time the puppies will be meeting on a weekly basis to carry out socialisation and specialist training. When the dogs are fully trained the ownership will be fully transferred to the new owner.
