RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

This is no ordinary Charity page. This is OUR Charity page!

On the dark and stormy night of 7 May 1915, a horrific sea faring disaster occurred not far off the coast of Kinsale, Ireland. The British Ocean Liner, RMS Lusitania was on her way from New York to Liverpool carrying 1,959 unknowing passengers and crew to pastures new on British shores. It was torpedoed by a German U-boat and within 18 minutes of being hit, was underwater and had sailed her last and final voyage.

DiCaprio and Winslet were not on board, but my dear Grandmother was! Audrey LJ was only 3 months old when she went for her first swim that night! She was saved by her nurse and along with 763 others, she lived to breathe another day (and actually another 95 Glorious years!). Without the help of the RNLI we could not tell this tale.

Sadly, 1,195 people lost their lives that afternoon in the chilly waters of the Irish Channel. Until last year, Granny was the only living survivor of the Lusitania.

She was the liveliest of characters and is sadly missed. She had a notorious sparkle in her eye and a remarkable wit. Throughout her life she raised money to support the RNLI and launched an in-shore lifeboat in memory of her mother, Amy Lea in 2004. This year, with donations raised by family and friends from far and wide, a replacement lifeboat will be launched in October in New Quay, Wales. The boat will be named, in her bright memory, Audrey LJ.

Even if you are bored by now and got something better to do....Please keep reading!

So what has all this got to do with us and surely we cannot just ask for cash for just a tender story in return? Anna and I love going on and on about our wedding, doing our sock draw, walking through lush meadows and whispering sweet nothings in each other's slightly dirty ears. We love rainbows and birds and sunshine and dwarves! We love the good things in life. One thing we absolutely, positively hate is..RUNNING. It's unbelievably boring, sweaty, monotonous and it makes our feet hurt. We come back tired, dirty and demoralised by other runners overtaking us! We have been known to cry when we see our beckoning trainers and lycra shorts! I, for one would rather watch 5 episodes of "Don't tell the Bride!" than go running!

On the 7th October, The Hudsons will be put to the test as they attempt to run 10 gruelling, horrendous Kilometres around the streets of Edinburgh in the wind, rain, a plague of locusts and snow. There will be temptation along the way but we will endeavour to complete the run without stopping and will promise to try to enjoy it! Our training has recently been hindered by new management at the local Indian restaurant and the introduction of a new high-fat cake range at M&S. We have written a letter of complaint!

So before you go to bed tonight, before you go out to walk the dog, before you get off the London train, before you fly people around the skies, before you attempt your Dunkin Donut marathon or looking for those photos of Kate, please donate a wee bit of cash to this page so that we can run in the knowledge that we are doing something worthwhile and our efforts in her memory were not futile.

So please dig deep like the RNLI did 97 years ago to rescue those lucky people and donate now!

Best wishes from

Christo and Anna Hudson
