There are five almshouse buildings in the City of Wells providing 33 units of accommodation for older people in housing need. The earliest of the almshouses was founded in the 15th century through a legacy from Bishop Bubwith, a former Bishop of Bath & Wells and Treasurer to King Henry IV.
