Isle of Wight Coastal Path · 10 October 2021

There are five almshouse buildings in the City of Wells providing 32 units of accommodation for older people in housing need. The earliest of the almshouses was founded in the 15th century through a legacy from a former Bishop of Bath & Wells and Treasurer to King Henry IV, Bishop Bubwith.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am helping to raise funds to restore the beautiful, medieval, Bubwith Chapel of the City of Wells Almshouses. The chapel is cold and damp and uncomfortable and needs urgent specific repairs. In addition, we want to make it a more flexible and welcoming space for use by the local community, including the students of the music school, to help Wells and the surrounding area to recover from the effects of the COVID pandemic.  We have had much encouragement and support for our plans and, while the chapel will remain primarily a place of worship, it will become not only a beautiful place to visit and in which to reflect and be at peace, but also a delightful venue for small concerts and recitals, lectures, seminars, talks and other activities
which will help the community to bounce back from the recent dark days of solitude and lack of social contact. I’ll be walking the entire coastal path of the Isle of Wight, starting 11th October. It’s about 70 miles (assuming I don’t get lost!!) and it would be great if you could sponsor me and help reopen the doors of the beautiful Wells Almshouses Chapel to the world.
Thank you!
