Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am so passionate about the work that International Animal Rescue do. Bringing an end to the dancing bear practice in India was a fantastic achievement in 2019.

IAR also ensured that the bear handlers (The Kalander tribe) were provided a rehabilitation package which involved the signing of a legal & binding document to ensure they never keep a bear again, but because it was their only means of income, IAR set up a grant system to enable each handler to be trained in a trade that would enable them to support their families as well as schooling their children in exchange for surrendering over their bear bringing an end to their suffering and making history. It was a truly remarkable move forward for all concerned, bears and handlers.

Even though the ex-dancing  Sloth bears are now safe from their torturous previous life, and living happily in the rescue center in Bannerghatta close to Agra, it still cost at least £1000 just to feed  one bear each year, and there have been over 600 cut free! My foster bear Mili is one of them and relies on the support of IAR, who in turn rely on our support and generous donations.

IAR also have centers in Borneo rescuing and rehabilitating Orangutans from the terrible, and destructive Palm Oil trade, in Indonesia for primates often used for tourism, in Goa to care for stray cats and dogs by running an anti-rabies, and spaying/ neutering program, as well as in Malta to help protect birds of prey along with  many other species from being shot down during their migration season. Their work also takes them to Armenia helping to rescue Syrian Brown Bears used in the dreadful practice of bile extraction.

More recently in 2017 a wonderful new center in Costa Rica opened helping orphaned Howler monkeys who's mothers all too often fall victim to  electrocution from overhead cables. This heartbreaking occurrence is actually the main reason why the center's patients are admitted.
