Story
When my brother was younger he became very unwell and was eventually diagnosed with an inherited disease called Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) alongside Addisons Disease (a disorder of the adrenal glands).
ALD is a rare, inherited metabolic disorder which affects boys. The fatty covering of the nerves in the brain are gradually lost leading to progressive neurodisability and death. There is currently no cure but my brother has been taking 'Lorenzo's Oil' which has been trialled in the hope it will stop progression of the disease.
As I also found out that I am a carrier for this disease, I had to have genetic testing (CVS) at my 12th week of pregnancy to determine the sex and health of my baby as there was a 50% chance I could pass on the faulty gene. We found out thankfully that our baby is a boy and is free of the disease!
CLIMB is a registered Charity which provides information and support to children and their families around all Inherited Metabolic Diseases and also supports research into the conditions to hopefully one day find a cure.
Therefore if possible please can you support this fund raising event by sponsoring me. Any amount however big or small will be very much appreciated! The money raised will go to Climb who look to fight these diseases by funding the research into cures.
