This year has been a challenging year for our family with the news that a close and much loved family member was diagnosed with myeloma. I have been so utterly humbled with the way that they have dealt with this news that I felt that it was about time that I challenged myself to do something I wouldn't normally do. 

As some of you know, i'm a bit of an irregular runner which is why i've challenged myself to run 10k. However, for me the real challenge here is to overcome my  anxiety and manage to run on the day with a large group of people. I run alone because I enjoy the peace and quiet to think. 

Running the Race for Life presents a real mental challenge for me. I've only ever managed to run one 5k race before because I cannot cope with the crowds of people competing. If I can manage to achieve this goal then it will be a personal breakthrough of enormous proportions. I've effectively doubled my challenge by running 10k instead of 5 (therefore lengthening the time I'm there)- it really will be hard for me!
