Those Boots were Made for Cycling!
Coast2Coast for Epilepsy Research UK! 1000 miles in under four days!
Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Cycling legend Gerry Powell aka Gerry Boots, not a man to rest on his laurels will soon attempt to add a new record to his long list of endurance cycling. Last year he broke the 24-hour record to ride non-stop Mizen Head to Malin Head, finishing in just over 23 hours. He celebrated his achievement by skinny dipping in the cold Atlantic waters off Malin,
He also holds the record for riding the Atlantic Way, which he completed along with Brendan Barrett in 2015. Gerry cycles, so others may benefit and various charities to date are so grateful for his generous efforts.
Commencing on June 14, Gerry Boots will attempt, what will be his toughest challenge so far: to ride from Land's End to John O'Groats, 900 miles in under four days. On this long and lonely road, he will be joined by five men from Mayo and one from Sligo. Alan Heney, Swinford; Colum Carney, Bohola; Gary Bigley and Gary Smith, Kiltimogh; Jonathan Verry, Crossmolina and Pat Murtagh, Tubbercurry, Sligo. With Gerry leading and setting the pace, I have no doubt that the Magnificent Seven will ride into John O' Groats within the four days. On this occasion, Gerry's chosen charity is Epilepsy Research UK. Details for donations will soon appear in Irish weekly newspapers, and your generosity would be much appreciated. Any of these long endurance events are not for the faint-hearted, as many months of painful training are required beforehand. If Gerry Boots had been given a decent bicycle when growing up in Keady, South Armagh, I am sure he would have competed in the Tour de France, such as his energy and willpower.
Your training and a pacesetter,
