Aspire - Aspire Channel Swim 2011 · 4 December 2011 ·

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

Our cousin Hadley broke her back when the beam of a swing set fell on her on the 28th September. It has been nearly 5 weeks since the accident and she's doing tremendously well in rehabilitation. We love visiting her in hospital, her positive attitude and smiles always make us want to go back again as soon as possible. It’s such an enjoyable experience seeing her progression through rehab. Last time we were there she was showing us all her newly developed wheelchair skills.

She is staying at Stanmore hospital with Uncle Mark for her rehabilitation, and will be there for a couple more months.

Individuals who are affected by spinal cord injuries lose muscle and sensory control and many become full time wheelchair uses for the rest of their lives. Apsire offers practical support to 40,000 people living with a spinal injury in the UK.  It's support helps individuals lead fulfilled and independent lives.

To raise money for Aspire we will be swimming 22 miles between us, which is equivalent to the width of the Channel. Hadley will even be swimming some herself!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you in advance for any support.
