Story

Craig Valentine was a kind, warm and successful 30 year old living in Glasgow with his partner. He died suddenly at home on the evening of Monday 11th April 2022.

Craig had a condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. HCM causes the wall of your heart to become thickened and stiff which makes it harder to pump blood around your body. It can cause chest pain, palpitations, light-headedness and shortness of breath.

The British Heart Foundation website states that:

"There is a rare risk of developing a life-threatening abnormal heart rhythm, which can cause a cardiac arrest and sudden death. This is why it’s so important to diagnose people who have HCM, so they can have treatment to stop this from happening."

The American Heart Association states that:

"HCM has been cited as the most common reason for sudden cardiac death in young people and athletes under the age of 35."

HCM is a genetic condition which also affects Craig's mum and sister.

In memory of Craig, please help us to raise money to find out more about Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and to ensure that the correct treatment is given to those affected.
