Martin Currie - Rob Roy Challenge 2008 · 21 June 2008 ·

Martin Currie Charitable Foundation is run by staff of Edinburgh-based investment management business, Martin Currie. We support a number of good causes through charitable donations and volunteering. Our main fundraising event is the Martin Currie Rob Roy Challenge, held each year in June.

Story

Very pleased to say me and the team: The Flat Tryers (Stuart Robertson, Peter Milne and Hamish Currie) all finished the challenge. We managed to complete the event in less than 11 hours including pit stops, massages and first aid (for me). Yes, I took a tumble 21 miles into the challenge and 5 miles into the 39 mile bike section but still managed to complete the remaining 34 miles with a sprained wrist and cuts and bruises all over. Felt well hard (and well daft!) - Still quite a few people got a laugh as I managed to do it in front of a crowd. My team mate, Hamish, sums up what a plonker I was...
' Waving to a bunch of picnickers on the shores of Loch Lubnaig who waved and cheered back – so Cris thought he’d wave, too. I looked over my shoulder to see his front wheel at right angles to his line of travel and him doing the most superb somersault – bike in ditch, Cris in the gravel. Quite a lot of blood – but nothing broken, thankfully.'

Just to say a MASSIVE Thanks to everyone who has sponsored me - well chuffed!
Now comes the toughest part of the challenge - the sponsored mix. I am already referring to it as the ASBO mix! How on earth I'm going to mix punk, pop, death metal, rave, Indie, Hip Hop and Country into something audibly pleasurable is beyond me but you'll find out after next weekend.

For those of you who didn’t receive a link to the Funky Mix, here it is: -

Cheers again everyone!

Special thanks to the following:
Darren Caliendo - for giving me a bike to train with in Woking - would not have been fit enough otherwise.
Julie Fahy - for driving me up and waiting for me complete the various sections of the challenge during my training.
Ross Clacherty - for being a cycle buddy on my training for the last section of the challenge.

If you haven't already - you can still sponsor me until end of July 2008.
