Weʼve raised £210 to go towards expanding the community hall side of our building so that we can better serve and support the needs in our area.

    Story

This sponsorship event is the Christian '3 Peaks Challenge'. Four guys will be climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon - the three tallest peaks in the UK - within a 24 hour period. The aim is to raise funds to go to the West Hucknall Baptist Church building fund. We will be climbing on the 29th May, 2018. We appreciate any sponsorship money you can give!

The town is growing heavily at the moment, with lots of new housing going up on various sites. Our Church is on the Ruffs Estate in West Hucknall. Because of the population growth in the area, and our proximity to the new developments, we're obviously considering how we can best serve and support the new community that will be moving in over the next few years, in addition to continuing what we do in the current area.

We took the decision to refurbish and extend our own building so that we can hold more community based groups, be open more often, and be a better resource / functional space in the area. As a Church we already run several community based groups for all ages. For example we have Ripples and Paddles toddlers groups where lots of local Mum’s bring their kids. We have Splash youth groups for young people in the area. We have recently started Fountains Memory Café to support people with dementia. And many more groups like coffee mornings, ladies meetings, St. John’s, Sure Start etc all use our building throughout the week. All of these are groups that we want to build on and expand upon to better support and serve the community.

The Church members voted on to extend the building on 21/02/16. Since then we have appointed an architect to get plans drawn up. We have gained planning permission from the local Council and are at the stage of creating detailed specs so that we can go out to building companies to get quotes for the work. We estimate that the total works will cost around £250k, which for a small Church is a lot of money! We’ve run lots of fundraising events last year, which raised a fair amount, but the majority of what we have raised so far has come from personal giving from Church members. We have around £40k to date.
