    Story

Last year we managed to raise just under £4,000 for two amazing causes...

The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Glasgow Childrens Hospital and also the Positivity about Down Syndrome Charity.

Our fundraising last year was inspired by Super Ted, who is my cousin Hannah and friend Ross' little superhero..

Our event this year will take place from 29th-31st March which is following celebrating World Down Syndrome Awareness day on 21st March.

    From Hannah:

'The reason we celebrate is because we honestly feel like the luckiest parents in the world to be blessed with Ted as our son. He has brought so much to our lives and is so valued and so loved by all the family ❤️

We are raising awareness and raising money for Positive About Down Syndrome- an amazing charity which has supported Ted since before he was even born and continued to do ever since.’

‘Ted is the strongest and bravest person I have ever known which became even more evident when he spent a month in the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at the start of 2023 battling against a nasty dose of flu, and unfortunately has also been in the unit more recently'

This unit has saved Teds life on more than one occasion and we can never thank them enough for all they have done for Ted throughout his life.

After last years efforts - we were delighted to hear that the money raised for the Intensive care unit went towards new comfier chairs, and also blankets for the families of those children in the unit.

This may not seem like much but Ted has unfortunately been in the unit since our charity event last year and Hannah has let us know that even small things such as more comfortable chairs when spending hours at a bed side or spending overnights at the unit- can really help!

In the last year we have also had members families from the gym unfortunately being admitted to PICU but fortunately due to the amazing work they do have helped those loved ones make full recoveries.

So this year as a team and a family... we want to go bigger & do more!

Over 3 days I will complete 3 marathons, on the 3rd day an ultra marathon.

    135km in 3 days.

This is well beyond anything I have ever done before and I'll be honest it terrifies me.

I will not be ready for this when the time comes, I haven't trained to do one marathon never mind 3 in 3 days.

But sometimes life hits us when we least expect it - and it is then that we see what we are made of.

I look to Super Ted, and the young family members of ours that have fought & continue to fight each day.

As a team at AFIT we will all complete a number of challenges over this weekend at the end of March, and any support would be greatly appreciated.
