The background:
There are 750,000 stray dogs in Sicily. They are poisoned or die of malnutrition in the first year of their life if they are not taken off the streets.

What we do:
The dogs are brought to Malta at no expense to the adopters. The only requirement is that the dogs go to a good home. They arrive in Malta micro-chipped, holding an EU passport, vaccinated against Rabies, de-fleaed and de-wormed. They are checked by a vet prior to departure and are only brought to Malta if they are 100% healthy and conforming to regulations.
This is not a business but a charity financed by ourselves. The dogs are not for sale, and they are not allowed to be sold on by those adopting.

The problem:
Here in Vizzini we are at 650m above sea level. It is already freezing at night and it has rained solidly for 7 days and still pouring heavily! In spite of our efforts our pens are flooded and this is the condition our dogs are living in daily.

We are going to have some concrete bases and roofs put in because the situation in winter is unbearable both for the dogs but also for us as we have to wade through the mud in wellies and the mud becomes really tough for us to clean up properly. My knees and back are beginning to hurt. But to do this we need to install an effective power wash and an adequate septic tank which drains the liquid but retains the solids.
