Story
Aisha has lived in Cambridge for 13 years, and is a local activist who does amazing work with Movement for Justice and other organisations.
She was denied a working visa in the summer and was taken to Yarl's Wood detention centre for two weeks where she faced deportation so she applied for LGBT+ asylum. She had her interview in January but a week ago found out it was denied.
She applied to appeal this, expecting a few months to put her case together before her hearing (usual time frame), but learned yesterday that her pre-hearing has been rushed forward to the 27th February, and the court appointment on the 15th March. We have very little time and need help urgently.
*We need to raise £1600 to pay for the solicitor as there is no time to get legal aid, so money would really help.*
Aisha has not been allowed to work for years and is not on benefits either. There are people, her family in Cambridge, who give her bed and food and this is how she survives.
She has tried contacting legal representatives but some of them don't do immigration, others said she too far away from London, others don't take on new clients. And now that there are only 5 days, there is no time to book legal aid.
(also, there are other really helpful things you can do like write a letter of support and come with us to the court hearing, so if you'd like to, please get in touch)
